Tools for Action, Berlin
Tools for Action is a community project using inflatable sculpture as a tool for interventions. During Alt_Cph, Tools for Action will set up a pop-up “Inflatable Factory” in which large inflatable cubes will be produced for the “barricade of the 21th century”: modular, soft, shiny building blocks that can be used for mobile blockades and playful street spectacles. The design method is consciously low tech, low budget and open source to make inflatable barricades easily reproduced. The inflatable barricade was first developed at the protest during the United Nation Climate Conference in Paris 2015 and then further developed during Tools for Action’s last intervention in Dortmund in June 2016 where participants tried to block a neo-Nazi march with students, teachers, activists and workers from the local theatre. For Alt-Cph, new choreographic formations will be tested for swarm-like crowd movements, which can become a tactical innovation in a demonstration context. This experiment can only work with many people participating in an engaged way. Please join Tools for Action for a session in the Inflatable Factory or at the Sunday "Barricade Ballet" action training!
