Raisa Kabir (UK)

Raisa Kabir (b. 1989, UK) is an interdisciplinary artist whose work addresses cultural anxieties surrounding nationhood, textile identities and the cultivation of borders; as well as examining the encoded violence in histories of labour in globalised neo-colonial textile production. Kabir has participated and exhibited work internationally and her work has been shown at The Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester, The Tetley Art Gallery, Leeds and Raven Row, London, all in the United Kingdom, and at Textile Arts Center, USA. Kabir has lectured on her research on South Asian textile cultures at Tate Modern, United Kingdom, Institute of Contemporary Art: ICA, London College of Fashion and the Royal College of Art, all in the United Kingdom.
